She was born in Mineola, NY on August 10, 1933, the daughter of the late Gerard Oscar Peterson and Ella Louise Manion Peterson. She graduated from Northport High School with the Class of 1951. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Richard Chouinard, on May 1, 2011.
